Finding God in the Ordinary: A Meditation on Daily Life

Finding God in the Ordinary: A Meditation on Daily Life

In the busy routine of our daily lives, we often miss the presence of God all around us. This meditation invites you to slow down and discover the sacred in the ordinary.

Morning

As the sun rises over the mountains of Sandaun Province, painting the sky in shades of gold and pink, God is there. In the crowing of the rooster, in the smoke rising from the morning fire, in the laughter of children heading to school — God is speaking to us.

“This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psalm 118:24)

The Garden

When you dig in the soil, planting seeds or harvesting food for your family, you share in God’s creative work. Every seed that sprouts is a miracle. Every rain that falls is a blessing.

“I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth.” (1 Corinthians 3:6)

Community

When you sit with your neighbors, sharing betel nut and stories, you are living the communion that Jesus desires for us. When you help a sick neighbor or comfort someone in grief, you are the hands and feet of Christ.

Evening

As the day ends and the stars appear over the Pacific, take a moment to review your day. Where did you see God? Where did you miss Him? What are you grateful for?

“Be still, and know that I am God.” (Psalm 46:10)

A Simple Prayer Practice

Each evening, before sleep, try this:

  1. Thank God for three good things from the day
  2. Ask forgiveness for anything you wish you had done differently
  3. Listen in silence for God’s voice
  4. Trust your tomorrow to God’s loving care

May you discover that every moment is a moment of grace, and every place is a place where God dwells.

Peace be with you.
