Bishop Siby Mathew, HGN, conducted a pastoral visit to the parishes of Lumi and Nuku during the Easter Octave, bringing the joy of the Risen Christ to these remote communities in the Sandaun Province.
The visit included the celebration of the Easter liturgies, Confirmations for over 120 young people, and meetings with parish pastoral councils.
Challenges and Hope
Despite the challenges of limited infrastructure and remote geography, the communities in Lumi and Nuku showed remarkable faith and dedication. Many parishioners walked for hours to attend the celebrations.
Bishop Siby Mathew expressed his admiration for the resilience and joy of these communities, calling them “living witnesses to the power of Easter hope.”
The Diocese continues to work on improving pastoral services to remote areas through the establishment of outstation chapels and training of lay catechists.
