Diocesan Pastoral Council Holds Annual Planning Meeting

The Diocesan Pastoral Council of the Diocese of Aitape held its annual planning meeting at the Bishop’s House in Aitape town, gathering representatives from all deaneries across the Sandaun Province.

Key Priorities for 2026-2027

The council identified several priority areas for the coming pastoral year:

1. Strengthening Parish Communities

  • Training of parish pastoral council members
  • Development of small Christian communities
  • Improved communication between parishes and the diocese

2. Youth Ministry Expansion

  • Establishment of diocesan youth commission
  • Youth retreats and formation programs
  • Sports and cultural activities for young people

3. Catechetical Renewal

  • Updated catechist training programs
  • Distribution of catechetical materials in local languages
  • Integration of cultural values in faith formation

4. Social Outreach

  • Health awareness campaigns in remote areas
  • Support for families affected by natural disasters
  • Education scholarship programs
