PNG Catholic Health Services Expand Rural Clinics

Catholic Health Services (CHS) of Papua New Guinea has announced the expansion of its rural health clinic network, adding 15 new health posts across five provinces, including the Sandaun Province where the Diocese of Aitape is located.

Impact on Sandaun Province

Three new health posts will be established in the Diocese of Aitape’s territory:

  • Amanab Health Post — serving the Amanab District
  • Green River Aid Post — serving communities along the Green River
  • Imonda Health Post — near the Indonesian border

Services Provided

The expanded clinics will offer:

  • Maternal and child health services
  • Immunization programs
  • Malaria treatment and prevention
  • Basic first aid and health education
  • Referral services to district hospitals

Church’s Health Mission

The Catholic Church remains the second-largest provider of health services in Papua New Guinea, operating over 500 health facilities nationwide.

“Health is a fundamental right of every person,” said Sr. Mary Kolai, National Director of CHS. “We are committed to bringing quality health care to the most remote communities in our country.”

The expansion is funded through a partnership between the PNG Government, Catholic agencies, and international development organizations.
