Society of the Divine Word (SVD)
The Society of the Divine Word (Societas Verbi Divini) are the pioneering missionaries who brought the Catholic faith to the Sepik region. They have been serving in the Diocese of Aitape for over 100 years.
History in Aitape
The SVD missionaries arrived in the Aitape region in the early 1900s, establishing the first mission stations and building churches, schools, and health centres. Their dedication laid the foundation for the thriving Catholic community that exists today.

- Health — establishing and supporting rural health clinics

Presence
The SVD continues to serve in the Diocese of Aitape, working alongside diocesan clergy and other religious congregations in the mission of evangelization and human development.
